GiGi Hatches Some Chicks

One of the year-old French Silver Cuckoo Marans chickens, GiGi went broody which means she wanted to sit on a nest of eggs. She started with six, one broke, three turned out to not be viable, and then there were two. Chico the rooster who fathered them is an Ameraucana — the breed who lay blue eggs, while Marans lay dark brown eggs. A year later, we now know that an Ameraucana/Marans cross can result in a dark hen with gold lacing around her neck (named Liza) who lays greenish-blue eggs, and a huge, lighter, speckled hen (named Louise) who at a little over four months suddenly revealed "herself" to be a rooster now known as Lewis.
